Matrimony / Marriage
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. (CCC 1601)
Engagement is the first step in building a successful marriage. This is a happy time and a time for preparation, reflection and prayer, and sharing your personal values.
Because the Catholic Church and your diocesan community wants couples to form strong, lasting marriages, all engaged couples wishing to marry in the Diocese of Covington are required to:
- Contact the parish priest at least six months before the wedding to set an initial appointment and to start your marriage preparations at the parish.
- Participate in St. Joseph marriage preparation program.
- Attend an approved Diocesan Marriage Preparation Program three to six months prior to the wedding.
Since marriage preparation programs often fill quickly, please register two to three months before the program date.
- Attend a certified Natural Family Planning course. It is preferable to attend this course after attending the marriage preparation program, if possible.
NFP courses require a three month commitment and fill quickly, so register early.
Please contact the Parish Office at least six months prior to the desired wedding date. 859-341-6609
